State of Clemson 2025

On February 25, 2025, the Clemson Area Chamber of Commerce hosted the annual State of Clemson event at the Clemson University Conference Center & Inn. This gathering of community leaders, business professionals, and university representatives provided an opportunity to reflect on Clemson’s progress over the past year and discuss future aspirations.

Chamber President Bryan Lee opened the event with a warm welcome, sharing updates on the Chamber’s initiatives and its impact on the local business community. His remarks set the stage for an inspiring lineup of speakers.

As the title sponsor, AnMed played a key role in supporting this year’s event. CEO William Kenley addressed the audience, reinforcing AnMed’s commitment to Clemson and the surrounding areas.

Clemson University President Jim Clements took the stage to highlight the university’s ongoing growth and success across multiple areas, including athletics, academics, research, and campus expansion. “We have built a national championship culture across the university,” Clements stated. “It’s not just in athletics – it’s in academics, research, student life, our facilities, and so many other areas. Our culture is a reflection of our university values.” With undergraduate applications continuing to rise, Clemson University remains a pillar of progress for the local community and beyond.

Following Clements, Mayor Robert Halfacre shared his vision for Clemson’s continued growth and the university’s role in shaping the city’s future. “As President Clements said, Clemson is a special place because of the people,” Halfacre expressed, emphasizing the tight-knit nature of the community. He closed his speech with excitement about serving Clemson for the next four years.

A highlight of the event each year is the presentation of the Catherine Smith Award, which recognizes outstanding service to the Clemson Area Chamber and the community. This year’s well-deserved recipient was Barbara Shehan, General Manager of The Abernathy. Known for her dedication, volunteerism, and willingness to help others, Shehan has been an invaluable asset to both the Chamber and the community. Congratulations, Barbara!

The event concluded with Natalia Martin, Director of Marketing & Events at the Chamber, highlighting key Chamber initiatives. She provided updates on We Shop SC, the farmers market, and the first HR Roundtable, all of which aim to strengthen local businesses and community engagement.

The 2025 State of Clemson was a fantastic event, celebrating the strength of Clemson’s community, university, and business network. As Clemson continues to grow and thrive, we look forward to seeing the exciting opportunities ahead.
